Designing the EngineHosting Control Panel
EngineHosting is the official web hosting partner of EllisLab, makers of our favorite content management system, ExpressionEngine. They are the web host of choice for many developers in the ExpressionEngine community. As we have been an EngineHosting customer for some time, using them to host many of our client’s websites, it is exciting to be taking on user interface and user experience design for their new control panel, still in development.
A big thanks goes out to Solspace and EngineHosting, who we are working closely with to complete the look and feel of the control panel. Solspace is handling planning, development and implementation of the control panel, and they brought us in on the project.
Our design work is divided in three parts: The sign up process, the hosting control panel, and a new back-end for EngineHosting staff. We have been posting some of the work on dribbble with the tag enginehosting, so you can continue to follow us there if you want to see updates. We’ve also included some designs below but please keep in mind that these, and the functionality they show, are a work-in-progress.
EngineHosting Sign Up
The new sign up is an easy step-by-step process that allows the user to choose services, add account information and review their selections before finishing.

The Hosting Control Panel
The new hosting control panel home has a full account snapshot, with easy access to account details, tools and technical support.

The EngineHosting Back-End
We are also designing the interface for EngineHosting staff to manage their business, also being developed by Solspace. This interface includes reporting, invoicing, sending notifications and other functions, all designed to improve their workflow for communication with customers and account management.
